Les dessins de Pierre Merle se caractérisent par la construction d’espaces imaginaires : entre utopies et autres territoires abritant des éléments hétérogènes tirés de ses centres d’intérêt (construction d’habitats, conquête spatiale, travail du bois, culture geek, techniques archaïques, géologie, nouvelles technologies, écologie, fascination pour le progrès, DIY et art de la guerre, paysages et topographie).

Ce livre dresse l’atlas des objets et des choses que l’on retrouve à l’intérieur de deux séries de dessins que l’on nommera « strates » et « archipels », autant de mondes qui entremêlent ces éléments en les distribuant de différentes manières : sédimentaire ou volcanique, sur terre ou dans les airs, en long ou en large.

Pierre Merle’s drawings are characterized by the building of imaginary spaces : between utopias and many territories sheltering heterogeneous objects extracted from his areas of interest (construction of living spaces, space exploration, woodworking, geek culture, archaic techniques, geology, emerging technologies, ecology, fascination for progress, DIY and art of war, landscapes and topography).

This book is the atlas of all the things coexisting in two series of drawings named “strates” and “archipels” : there are many worlds mixing all these elements and arranging them in different ways: sedimentary or volcanic, on the ground or in the air, in length and in width.
